Located on a private road just outside Dyffryn Ardudwy, The Bothy is a ten minute drive to some of Snowdonia's best beaches and the stunning Rhinog Mountain range, so it's a perfect spot for walkers. There is a public footpath just below the Bothy which leads you direct to open countryside, ancient sites, mountain lakes and stunning views. Harlech, with its famous beach, golf course and UNESCO Heritage castle, and Barmouth, with plenty of traditional sea-side town attractions, are both a ten minute drive away.
There are great beaches all the way along this stretch of the Cambrian coast - you could visit a different one for each day of your holiday! Our local Benar Beach is about a twenty five minute walk away. Many of them are accessible from the Cambrian Coast railway line which runs along the shore line.
The area is fantastic for outdoor sports enthusiasts. The Rhinog mountain range rises up behind the cottage, there is a world class mountain biking centre, Coed y Brenin, about half an hour away by car, famous links golf at the Royal St David's course in Harlech and for the really adventurous, Zip World, where you can take a hair raising zip line across one of the area's old slate quarries! The Bothy has a lockable shed for storage of bikes and outdoor equipment.
For those with gentler tastes the beautiful Italianate village of Portmeirion is a short drive away. It's a great place to eat and shop as well as admiring the quirky buildings and beautiful woods, gardens and beaches. Harlech Castle is a UNESCO world heritage site. The area is also popular with Heritage Railway enthusiasts, with four different steam train routes within easy reach.
Barmouth is a traditional seaside town with a lively beach and traditional fish and chips. Harlech and Barmouth both have a good selection of interesting shops selling local crafts and produce.
There are plenty of great places to eat out in the area, from fantastic street food on the beach in Barmouth to Michelin starred food at the Ynys Hir, about 40 minutes drive away and everything in between!
